PERKS OF UNEMPLOYMENT

Who? Who are you? 😕
What do you do? 😞

I mean. When i heard those questions, i would have answered that i was human and what i do is eat, poop, sleep and breath then i wonder what her response would be. Jokes apart, understand that if you are reading this post, then we are on the same page.

If you are looking for a page that offers employment then i suggest you to leave because this isnt one. Dont waste your time. All that i would be writing here is a part of my thoughts. Rant, more specifically. Here, i would discuss of the multitude strange situations that we find ourselves in when... we are unemployed, obviously.

Among many types of situations we have to face during this so called "short-span" of life. Being unemployed or living on others without a monthly or yearly income is the most embarrasing, demoting, agonizing, humiliating predicament that some of us will have to face at certain stage of life. I mean, some may become unemployed at the age of 36 with 2 kids toppled with an aging parent to look after... it could be worse. Luckily some of us, dont have anyone depending on us while we leisurely chase after jobs that would not spare us a glance? 🤔

Here are some of the weird circumstances that i was and am caught in, i have listed them out to read for your amusement purpose only. Prepare yourselves to laugh.

  • Relatives mocking you for choosing a career or job that you are overqualified for.
  • Relatives commenting over things that they have no idea.
  • Relatives coming to your house, uninvited with the whole family to ridicule you in front of their kids. To teach kids that they shouldnt be like you.
  • Relatives coming to your workplace (previous) to mock you and disturb your work, thus becoming the sole reason for you resigning that job.
  • Excessive scrutiny from neighbours.
  • Neighbours sending their kids and questioning you mockingly about your job.
  • Spying neighbours who wants to know what you do inside your house so much that they pry into every opening of your house including your door, gates, and windows.
  • Neighbours cordially inviting you to dinner of a celebration and mock you while asking intrusive questions on your choice of clothes, your timing of going out.
  • The neighbour overly interested in your wardrobe, your fashion sense. So much that she remembers what you wore, on which day and such.
  • Neighbours wanting to know if you went to an interview, since you dressed up so nicely.
  • Strangers cordially start talking to you while enquiring you about your job and you dont know what to say.
  • Friends boasting about their stressful jobs over on social media. While you are yearning to have that stress instead of the stress of unemployment.
  • Getting irked by the longing feeling that dawns on you when you see certain people doing the job that they studied for. Ex; doctors, nurse, lecturers, teacher, police, clerks.. etc.
  • Job interviews gone wrong.
  • Nerve wrecking process of candidate selection that leaves you baffled, after all that hardwork and you are not chosen. Haha.
  • Employers choosing your less qualified friend over you just because she was a certain race. (Often happened.)
  • Unresponsive employers over your job applications. Often they dont share details of why they failed you. So there is no chance of you correcting your mistake, if there is any.
  • Employer refused to pay high (only a little) even if you are qualified 1st class degree holder responsible over kids, teaching, baby sitting and washing toilets?
  • Parents constantly mocking you (the usual) and try their level best to console you (acting) because they understand your plight (dont trust them).
  • Constantly getting ill.
  • Having bipolar personality, sudden happiness (when called for interview), sudden sadness (when rejected).
  • Sudden discovery of having a certain hormonal disorder, weight gain, oversleeping.
  • The every grain of rice, every ounce of calory you ingest mocks you so much that you are afraid of touching them. Even when hungry.
  • Constant feeling of hopelessness.
  • Stressed and stuffed that you cant even breath.
  • Sudden heartaches that comes with a package of demotivating memories attached to it.
There is more. But i stopped myself here. We may find ourselves in difficult situations and we decide to face it with different approachs. When we ask ourselves, to how to get around it? The answer lies within us. I have faced these situations listed above and in varying degree, all of them brought a certain lesson for me to learn from. I learnt to pick up myself from every failure, every humiliation, every mistakes and every downfall.

My only advice is, let people think what they wish to believe. Be indifferent to the thoughts and perceptions of people around you. Because how you develop and prepare yourself now is important.  While being unemployed brings you a lot internal and external pressure. It is also a golden chance for your to develop your own character. All that matters is, you. Not them. Its your life, not theirs. The moment arises when you realise your own strength to go out and fight for your future.

Dont lose. Keep fighting!
(Cuz im fighting too)🤗
